In this course, we will wrestle with some of the most basic questions concerning ethics as it applies to
today's business practices. Our topics include (1)how does ethics apply to business? (2)do corporations have
moral obligations? If they do, what exactly are those moral obligations? (3)what are employees' rights and
responsibilities?
This course does not presuppose prior acquaintance with philosophical texts or methods, and is designed (1)to
acquaint students with some of the major philosophical theories of ethics, (2)to help them explore how these
theories can be applied to ethical problems that occur in work organization, and (3)(perhaps most importantly)
to engage students in a dialogue about how they should conduct their lives as they pursue their careers.
