new air. Contrary to these vivid scenes of campus, there are some out-dated posters still attached with an
ongoingissue.
LastMay,theGeneralStudentCouncil(GSC)madeanopenrequestforcorrectionofthetoparticlepublishedon
Oedaehakbo.ThearticlewasaboutthecarelessadministrativeworksofGSCwhichwasinchargeofmanagingthe
studentfestival,Daedongjae.
Aftertheopenrequest,thepressissuedarevisedversionofthearticle.However,itseemsthatthewranglingisnot
overandthestudentbulletinboardisstillclamoring.EventhoughOedaehakboissuedtheirrevisedversion,GSCis
still demanding -after over three months since the paper came out- further corrections on some parts of the article.
Aftertheannouncement,thepressisremaininginsilence.
IfOedaehakbowroteandmadeefforttowardamoreobjectivearticle,theyneedtoclarifytheirpositionaboutthe
article.Thatistheonlysolutionwhichcanhushupthecouncil¡¯sclaim.Now,however,Oedaehakboisholdingtheir
tongue.ThiscanrathermakeHUFSanstorecognizethemassomewhatanarrogantorganization.Hence,Oedaehakbo
shouldreasontheirpositionandspeakout.Itwouldbeafundamentalsolutionaswellasatemporarystephandling
thisproblem.
On the other hand, who is acting worse is the GSC. In an official document written by GSC, some statements
includeexpressionswhichtrytoappealemotionallytothereaders.Forinstance,thereisasentencewhichcontradicts
theOedaehakbo¡¯sarticlewiththeGSC¡¯sadministrativeworks.Itsays,¡°ThearticleofOedaehakbohurtthosewho
hadvoluntarilyparticipatedinthecouncil¡¯sworkassupportersoforganizers.¡±Itwouldhavebeenproperiftheerrors
inthearticlewerepointedoutbyanonGSCstudent.However,theissueiswhethertheerrorisbasedonfactsornot.
Emotionalreactionshavenothingtodowitheffortsontruthfulnessinthearticle.GSC¡¯sexpressionscanrathermake
theissuevagueandsetOedaehakboasiftheyweretryingtodoharmonGSCmembers.Fromthispointofview,the
GSC¡¯sresponseseemstobebasedonpersonalfeelings.
Thisisnotonlyforthe¡°Daedongjaearticle¡±issue.Relationshipbetweenthecouncilandthepresshasbeengetting
worse in the past days. GSC rejected all of Oedaehakbo¡¯s interviews and reporting requests. This is not a proper
reactionasaleadinggrouptowardsapressorganizationbecauseofanarticlethathavegottenontheirnerves.Itis
possiblethatthisactioncanraisemoreproblems.ThatisbecauseHUFSansobtaininformationaboutGSC¡¯sactivities
throughthemediainHUFSlikeOedaehakbo.IfitcannotcoverissuesfromGSC,thewholequalitytheyhavewould
be degraded. Even though GSC¡¯s behavior can lead to these problems, it seems that GSC will not change their
attitude.Thisisnotadesirableaspectofthestudentsrepresentative.
IfthereisnoharmonybetweenGSCandOedaehakbo,itwouldcauseharmnotjustfortwoorganizations,butfor
allHUFSans.HUFSanswillbeencounteredbyclashesgettingfrustratedtowatchbothsidesbarkingateachother.
GSCaswellasOedaehakboexistsasHUFSans¡¯representativeandspokeperson.Theyworkawaytheirdutyfor
student¡¯swelfareandrights.Nowtheyshouldsitdownandthinkabouttheirownpositionsandseekabalanceable
communication.
Afewdaysago,adogfightbetweentheChongwadaeandthepressbrokeoutowingto¡°advancedcoverageand
reportingsystem.¡±Thegovernmentassertedthatitssystemwillofferadvancedchangestothepress.Onthecontrary,
mostreportersclaimedthatthenewsystemwouldseriouslyrestrictthefreedomtospeak.Likewise,twogroupsin
HUFSshouldpulloffthelabelsattachedontheirbacks,¡°excessivereaction¡±and¡°prideandprejudice.¡±
