For the rest of the day, Park consults with pet
owners on learning to read the signs their animals
aregiving,tosympathizewithandunderstandwhat
they are saying. “People don’t respect an animal’s
ability to adapt to a new environment,” he says.
“Theyremovetheclawsfromapetcatbecausethey
worry the animal may slide around on the tile or
woodenfloors.Butacatwilloftenlickitsclawsto
keepthisfromhappening,sode-clawingthemisn’t
necessaryandcanactuallybeharmfulforthem.”
Parkalsovolunteersasananimalrescuer,though
he says injured animals can be dangerous as they
are often mistrustful of humans. “They question
your motives. They wonder why you want to help,
