The Graduate School
The Graduate School was established in 1961 to facilitate the development of the country and
benefit humanity by producing leaders with creative expertise in specific academic areas. It has
46 departments today. Through active exchange and cooperation between research institutes,
universities, and industrial organizations at home and abroad in addition to collaborative programs
between departments, it is producing top-notch human resources who are leaders in every area
of society in Korea and in the world, and is continuing to grow. Students achieving high scores,
freshmen having graduated from an undergraduate program of HUFS, students with excellent
academic records and foreign students entering the Graduate School are granted scholarships in
an effort to encourage their learning and promote research. The Graduate School supports research
activities both at home and abroad.
Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation
The Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation was established in 1979 to produce world-
class conference interpreters and translators, who are increasingly needed in light of the tremendous
development of the Korean economy. It is Korea¡¯s best institution for educating professional
interpreters who play an active part in international conferences held in Korea, and translators
who play a key part in multinational information exchange. This school provides education in eight
languages (English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic) and school
students become Asia¡¯s best professionals as well as Korea¡¯s best. As one of only three universities
in Asia that are members of CIUTI (Conference Internationale Permanente d'Instituts Universitaires de
Traducteurs et Interpretes) the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation is establishing itself
as an institution of global renown.
Graduate School of International and Area Studies
The Graduate School of International and Area Studies was established in 1996 to produce area
specialists with research and work capabilities in international area studies and specialists in
international commerce and international affairs, politics, economics, international conferences, and
international organizations. With vast knowledge and information encompassing the whole world,
various programs for area studies, and many full-time professors, this school allows students to take
all the classes taught in English and/or an appropriate native language in the area of their study. By
the 1+2 (Visiting Student Program) +1 Program, students can enroll in a joint master¡¯s degree program
in collaboration with UPEACE.
