e were roaming the old downtown area of Montreal when we received an email from the school. The title
read,“SpringBreakExtension.”Weshouldhavebeenhappy,butwewerenot.Thatnight,alleightofuswere
in the common area of an Airbnb. The gathering was not planned. We somehow ended up being together.
Everyone was tired from the long day, all the walking, Google-mapping, eating and mostly…drinking, but our worries
keptusawake.“Shouldwestartpackingourbags?”Chrisbrokethesilence.Iknewweeachhadsomethingtosayabout
that,butnooneopenedtheirmouth.Instead,westaredatourphonere-readingthemailoverandoveragain.“Iamgoing
back to my house. I mean, my real house; not the dormitory,” Chris said. Everybody was trying to make sense of the
situationandfiguringoutwhattodonext.
TheemailsaidduetotheoutbreakofCOVID-19inNewYorkCity,everyclasswould

bemovedfromofflinetoonline,everystaffmemberwasworkingonthetransition,and

anyupdateswouldbesoontofollow.Moreover,itsaidtheschoolencouragedstudents
not to return to campus since doing so would cause the virus to spread, but of course
international students had no choice but to return. This changed everything. All the

and NYC museum trips planned by the school were now gone with the weekly Friday
night events. Obviously, it is a huge loss for everyone, especially for anyone whose
majorisMusicIndustry.“NowIhavetomakeavideoofmyselfsinginganddancingfor
mynextassignment,”DKsaid.Asforme,IhadtodoamonologueviaZOOMformy
acting class. If anybody had said one of the things above before spring break, I would
