tucked away from our noisy, often too-fast and perpetually restless world can
only be reached after walking for at least 20 minutes from the nearest subway
station.Thissmallindependentplacebecamearealhomefordisabledchildrenand
ahopeforabetterworld.
Upon first stepping into this place, you will be surprised by its atmosphere. The
home comprises two main buildings: a school, a house where children live and
receive medical treatment, and a playground full of children from neighbourhood,
cheerfullyplayingbasketballandotherfungames.Fromtheveryfirstmomentmy
friendBeckyandIsetfootinAenea’sHome,wewereattackedbyboyswithwater-
pistols. Becky,whoisaU.S.citizen,hasbeenvolunteeringinAenea’sHomeforthe
lastthreemonths.Shehelpsthemedicalworkersandspendstimewiththechildren.
Now Becky is a primary school teacher, and every Monday after finishing school
lessons, she comes to Aenea’s home to visit the children whom she loves so much
and who eagerly await her. A present, Becky is the only foreign volunteer at the
Home.
