eewondoesnothavemanyvisitorsalthoughitislocatedneartheEverlandandeasytofind.That
iswhyHeewonisthebestplaceevertoenjoyarestfulwalk.Let’sgoinsidetheplainandsimple
Koreantraditionalgarden.
Heewon, located in Yongin, is a Korean traditional garden. It, opened in May 1997, is the place to
exhibittheKoreantraditionalgarden’sbeautythatwemaybeabletoeasilyfindincurrentsurroundings.
Everywhereinthisgarden,wecanfindourancestors’aestheticsthatpresenttheprincipleofnatureandthe
ground of our life. Inside and outside of Heewon, there are about 450 stone pieces from constructions.
Also,variousKoreantreesplantedmakethegardenmorebeautiful.Ithasaverybeautifulscenethatlooks
justlikeapainting.Thisplaceisfilledwithnaturalsimplicityandbeautythatexcludedhumantouch.
Heewon rebuilt the traditional landscape in 20,000 acres of the garden. There are stone towers from
Shillaperiod,Buddhasculptures,stoneconstructions,flowers,andbamboosthatrepresentmoralcultureof
oldscholars.Forthisreason,manylandscapeexpertsconsiderthegardenasanoriginalformoftheKorean
traditionalgarden.
Ithasnotbeendecided,ofcourse.Thegardenisnotspacious,soyoucanwalkalong
theroadslowlyandlookallaround.ThesidewalkintheKoreangardenharmonizes
with the surroundings, which does not have a clear boundary with nature
comparingwithChinesesidewalkthatoftenarrangesfantasticrocksandstones
aswellasJapanesesidewalkthatisfenced,butonlydecoratedinsidethefence.
Thismeansthatitrepresentsharmonywithnatureratherthanregulatednature.
ThisphotoisGuanum-JoenginHeewon,whichisfacingwithapondandmade
likeAeryeon-JoenginChangdeokgung.
You can feel graceful beauty with two ponds and pavilions. Also, besides
Heewon, there is a small Bourdelle garden where 9 sculptures created by
Bourdelle, a French sculptor are exhibited. The sculptures are big and
elaboratethatpeoplecanspendtimeforbrowsingandenjoyingeachsingleone.
Theadmissionfeeis4,000wonforadultsand3,000wonforstudents.Thebusinesshourisfrom10am
to6pm.ThegardenisclosedonMonday.Ifyouwanttousepublictransportation,youcantakeabusat
Gangnam,Gyodae,andYangjaestations.Fromthefrontgatetothewestgate,youcanusetheshuttlebus.
AfterpassingBohwa-munandbambooforest,youcanmeetthetraditionalgarden“Heewon.”
The traffic to Heewon is convenient. The admission fee is just a half price of the movie ticket. What
about visiting this place to upgrade your insight in this weekend? It is valuable to visit with someone
together,butwalkingandthinkingbyyourselfisnotthatawkward.
