ThemodernviewpointofClausewitz
Today, war is not just performed by force anymore. In many areas of
society,warbreaksoutbetweenpeopleornations.Especially,Clausewitz
criticizes the immoderate subdivision of the army and emphasizes
the organic combination of each military branch, writing about the

organization of an army, ¡°the more vertically divided, the worse, but

countrysuchasKorea.Ifpoliticalinfluenceislacking,thatcountrywillmeetatragic
fateandwillbecomethebattlefieldofforeigncountries.
Clausewitz¡¯ maxim, ¡°Without clear awareness and firm will, nothing will end in
success,¡±notonlymeansit¡¯stheonlyconditionforwinningawar,butalsoforlivinga
successfullife.
AfterClausewitz
His work, along with ¡®The Art of War¡¯, which is a highly influential ancient eastern
military treatise authored by Sun Tzu, is commonly listed as one of greatest works
aboutwarandhasinfluencedmanypeopleandnationsintheworldeversince.Itwas
fearedthatbooksdealingwithwarthatitisyetunfinished.
Still, war exists, but according to book, in a theoretical and absolute level of war, it
shouldneverbegin.Sincereasonablepeopleknowthatcan¡¯tcontinuetosolveobstacles
problems with war, constantly supplying and moving troops into battle, there will
always be things that are unexpected in war, and then it can get out of control, as
historyhasshowntimeandtimeagain.Beforeadvocatingwar,warmongersinKorean
society need to think about Clasewitz¡¯s philosphy, and consider the damages for our
society,andfurtherstudytheRomanstatesman,MarcusTulliusCicero¡¯ssaying,¡°Even
unjustpeaceismuchbetterthanthemostjustwar.¡±
Tothisday,Clausewitzmaybecontroversial,butheisn¡¯twrong.
