itsconcernonthismattertotheschool.Theretheschoolsaidtheywouldnotbanju-jeombutthentheyproposed
the declaration without further discussion. The president of GSC, Chung Sang-hyuk, said, ¡°We had difficulty
addressing the problem of the ju-jeom prohibition in the annual student meeting that was held on Sept. 26, in
theOpen-AirTheaterbecausetheschoolhadnotinformedtheGSCofitsintentionsbeforehand.¡±TheGSCwas
planningtolimitthoseclub-atmosphereju-jeomandrestricttheopeningofju-jeominfrontofthedormitories
andthelibrary.
AnotherclaimfromtheGSCisthattheschoolistakingnonoticeofthepracticaldemandsofthestudents.For
example, students suffer from a lack of classrooms, too many students on courses and an insufficient number
of courses for double majors. What is more, the ju-jeom is an autonomous student activity, so the school does
not have the right to forcefully control it. The problems caused by ju-jeom should be solved and improved by
thestudents.TheCSCemergencymeetingontheOct.8statedthat¡°Theschoolhasignoredtheself-regulating
effortsofstudentstobringaboutimprovementsandisthreateningthestudents¡¯autonomousactivities.¡±Whatis
more,theschoolfestivalor¡°Daedongje,¡±whichwasplannedforOct.10to12,wascancelled.TheGSCargues
thatitisbecausetheschoolisnotprovidingfortheschoolfestivalexpenditure.
AccordingtotheGSC,theone-sideddeclarationbytheschoolalsoreflectsonhowtheschoolviewsstudents
as potential criminals with no self-control. They had also proposed a way to create improved ju-jeom on Oct.
