Dear Mr. President:
It is with the greatest sense of honor that we thank you for visiting Hankuk University of Foreign
Studies despite your busy schedule during the Nuclear Security Summit last month in Seoul,
Korea. Over the 60-year history of HUFS, you are one of the most precious guests to this campus.
You deeply impressed our 110,000 alumni and 20,000 students who are dreaming to be the next
global leaders.
The speech you gave at this university clearly delivered a very crucial and core message for the
peaceful establishment of world order, and everyone was profoundly moved by your sincere words.
We hope your visit to Korea this time will contribute to the co-prosperity of the world and become
a milestone for the peaceful unification of the two Koreas. Also, please remember the genuine
friendship of Koreans who love peace and welcome guests with warm hearts, which you may know
as ¡®jeong¡¯.
You have emphasized, on several occasions, that creative education is the engine for national
strength. As you may already be aware, it was the enthusiasm for education that enabled Korea,
where the size of land is relatively small and the natural resources scarce, to grow as one of the
major economic players in the world.
As the top global university in Korea and the third in the world, Hankuk University of Foreign
Studies has greatly contributed to the economic progress of Korea. While pursuing creative
education, HUFS has been producing a huge number of competent leaders who are active on the
global stage.
In this sense, we believe it is very appropriate and at the same time a great pride for all of us at
HUFS to have you as our honorary alumnus as you yourself portrayed the spirit of this university,
¡°Come to HUFS, Meet the World¡±.
Indeed, we met the world from your presence on this campus. By taking lessons from your life,
Hankuk University of Foreign Studies will continue to pursue its best in producing creative,
Letter of Appreciation From the President of HUFS,
progressive young people who will make significant contributions to world peace. Finally, we do
wish you to be re-elected and allow us to present the honorary doctorate in the near future.
Korea to the President
Once again, thank you, President Barack Obama, for your visit, and may God bless you and your
family.
of the United States of America
Sincerely,
Chul Park, Ph. D.
