decided to merge their campuses. Those universities

have judged the merger will be a chance for them to
develop. HUFS has also been planning the merger
of Global campus and Seoul campus for a long time.
Finally on Nov. 2, 2012, the government has had

several times by the government due to problems
Merger
including the overlap of majors on Seoul and Global
campuses; Department of English Interpretation and
Translation on Seoul campus and Division of English
Interpretation and Translation on Global campus, and
EconomicsDivisiononSeoulandGlobalcampuses.
To solve the problem, officers of HUFS tried to gain
agreements between the faculties of both campuses.
At last, they decided to change the names of some
departments. Three departments in College of English
willberestructured,asDivisionofEnglish.Department
of International Business and Economics Division
are to be reorganized into a Division of International
Finance in College of International Finance. Those
policiesaretoavoidtheoverlapofdepartmentsbetween
the two campuses. The school also intends to establish
Seoul Campus as a school specializing in linguistics
and literature and Global Campus will specialize in
interpretationandregionalstudies.
However,theprocessofthemergerisnotproceeding
smoothly. Most students were not informed of the
merger. They did not know what merits and demerits
follow that decision. Some criticized that students¡¯
opinions were not fully reflected. The school claims
that the president of General Student Council had
also participated in a university senate. This could
not placate the students who face their academic
department¡¯s dissolution. The poor communication
between the school and the students and indifferent
attitude of school has caused disappointment among
manystudents.
To give exact information on the merger, dean
of Planning and Coordination, Kim Hak-tae, sent
